The Jessamine Humane Society is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to the protection of all animals from cruelty and exploitation and to the elimination of pet overpopulation.
our history
For the last eight years (since June 2000) our organization has contracted with Jessamine County Fiscal Court to operate their state-mandated facility in Nicholasville. The contract with the County was a detour from our plans. In August 2008, the County decided to begin a bidding process for operation of their facility. This new development gave us an opportunity that we had long been waiting for--the opportunity to leave the shelter in the hands of others and be able to again pursue our own strategic plans for the future.
Our accomplishments during our association with Jessamine County Fiscal Court have been many, including:
-
Implementation of a mandatory spay/neuter policy at the County facility in 1999
-
Development of a cat adoption program even before the state mandate
-
Implementation of an adoption program for exotic animals
-
Implementation of Adoption Guidelines, policies and procedures for all animals
-
Investment in offering licensed personnel and resources for wildlife rehabilitation
-
Facility expansion and improvements focused on the comfort of the animals
-
Increased shelter access to the community
-
Increased community awareness regarding animal welfare
-
Successful rehabilitation and adoption of hundreds of cruelty case animals, in addition to the thousands of other animals that were placed in loving, permanent homes
